The weather is absolutely stonkingly hot this morning and apparently it's not even as high as it's going to go later. Great. I only sweat from my hair and since I cut it short, it basically means I literally drip like mad. No wonder my colleague thought I'd been swimming. I hurried for a few moments to get on the train today and the result is disgusting! I bought a wicking headband from Sweaty Betty to counteract this, and it works perfectly, but you can't exactly wear it on the train.
Yesterday was a frustrating day at work, but I capped it off with workplace vinyasa in the basement. The basement is basically a grotty windowless hole where the floor never gets cleaned however much you ask, which pretty much shows you how much this wellbeing initiative is cared about!
We had a really nice slow flow class. Tammy slowed the vinyasas right down and explained where I'm going wrong with chaturanga, which is basically high plank to low plank. She essentially explained that I'm plonking my tummy down first, when I should be engaging my core and using my biceps to come down with my elbows close to the body. We practiced it with putting knees down first and I think I'm going to try doing it that way for a while to get to grips with it. I can imagine that going back to Pump, which I've been lazy about since I injured my ulnar nerve a while back, would help with that bicep strength. Or maybe I can just do more lifting!
I don't think the Wednesday evening class at work is long for this world if I'm honest, they don't promote it much and the time is awkward for a lot of staff, and only two of us have been turning up recently. I'm enjoying it while it's still there and have also hooked up with Tammy outside of work so I can find out where and when she teaches around town. It might involve some early mornings though... Grim.
She and Sarah are so great, I'd really like to have them as consistent teachers going forward, especially as I wander towards training. Tammy makes me feel so good about my practice, she's incredibly encouraging. Yesterday she was saying things like 'perfect' and 'if it's there for you, go up on your fingertips. I know you can do it!' and also was impressed with me holding a low twist for 20 breaths. She's a really generous teacher. Sarah is my home teacher, and I generally take Sarah's class on the weekend, which means that even when I eventually move (more on that another time) I could keep coming back to hers.
After yoga I went for a quick drink for a colleague's leaving do and then to choir rehearsal, and as usual got chatting in the pub after and didn't get home till midnight. Today was going to be a Pilates day, which I really need to get back into consistently doing, but my sister is coming over tonight, so I might choose to do that instead. I'm not saying all my choices are good right now...
