So it’s been almost a year since I last updated. That wasn’t the intention, but life kind of flew away with me… since I last posted, I’ve pulled this blog into my newly created website, I’ve had no less than four job changes, and I’ve taught a good 41 hours of yoga classes! I’m well into my teacher training, with just eight months left to go (we qualify in September). I have a pile of new friends, new experiences, and some additional coping strategies for everything I’ve posted a bit about before. Life is changing. Slowly.
This time last year I was still happily ensconced in my role at a national mental health charity where I was expecting to be until May this year, and was starting to plan lunchtime yoga classes at the church nearby, but things took a turn towards not being able to progress the project, and I ended up resigning in May. I haven’t looked back, actually. At the time I was terrified, but I had work at a couple of cancer charities within a couple of weeks, and then picked up a seven-month contract. I’m now a month into my current (perm) role. What a year! No one can keep up…
I started yoga teacher training just a week before I resigned. It was a turbulent time, but having the anchor of the training was a real boon through the year - I realised the importance of having something else going on in your life outside of work. I always have, really, but I’ve never felt it so keenly.
Luckily, at my seven-month contract, I was able to start a lunchtime yoga class, so taught two weekly classes (one energetic after work, one chilled out lunchtime) and some 121s with a small group of delightful, committed students. This was invaluable in terms of developing my teaching practice, and although I’ve now left and am no longer teaching there (more on that another time) I look forward to my next steps. And more on that next time too.
